Celebrating 50 Years of Nielsen Chemicals with Magic, Precision Driving & More!

On the 21st of June, Nielsen Chemicals celebrated 50 years in business at our HQ in Moira, Derbyshire, in what was an action-packed, exciting day for the Nielsen team members and a few special guests. 50 years is a big milestone for us, we’re half a century old so we had to celebrate our birthday in style. Here’s a brief background on our heritage and history followed by the highlights from our celebrations…

A brief history of Nielsen

The Nielsen Chemicals brand was established back in 1969 by our Danish founder – Borg Nielsen. We’re extremely proud of our heritage and embody the Viking spirit in everything we do – bringing it to life with our distinctive Viking emblem in our branding and visual identity. Fast forward to 2019 and Nielsen is now part of Reabrook Limited who are experts in chemical product manufacturing and packaging.

Nielsen’s 50th birthday highlights

Our 50th birthday celebrations had it all, including a world-record holding stunt car driver, a magician, great food and more. Here are a few of the best highlights from the day…

A demonstration from Glen

Our Sales Director, Glen Paston (pictured), shared some of his car cleaning wisdom with a lucky group. Glen amazed the group with a simple trick of the trade to tell whether or not a car has been clay barred or not, or how well it has been clay barred. The trick involves placing your hand in a plastic bag and running over the car paintwork and feeling for any irregularities. Using a plastic bag to do this helps to really accentuate the irregularities – uncovering the places on the body that require further clay barring.

Cars prepared – the Nielsen way

Our Nielsen detailing team were on hand in our International Training Academy to prepare 2 stunt cars for their performances later in the day. Each car went through the Nielsen professional detailing process including wash, wax, polish and car using our specialist car cleaning chemicals and products. It was no surprise that when the Nielsen team had finished applying greatness that both cars came away looking almost brand new.

A touch of magic

While our Viking’s were enjoying the sun and the lunch provided by our onsite catering van hired specially for our birthday, we had a magician entertaining them at their tables and in their groups. He wowed each and every one of us with his mind-reading abilities, close up card magic and great showmanship.

Precision stunt driving & flying hats!

What would a 50th automotive birthday celebration be without cars and the smell of burning rubber? Nielsen invited the world-record holding, precision driver Russ Swift as a guest for our celebrations. Russ who performs all over the world and has had F1 superstars such as Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button as passengers, put on an incredible stunt show for everyone. The smiles on the faces of our staff as he hand-picked individuals to experience two-wheeled driving, insane parallel parking and his stomach churning drifting dance routine was fantastic to see. Among the passengers was Tony Brealey, M.D of Reabrook Ltd, and Sales Director, Glen Paston. During Glen’s few laps he was having that good of a time that he failed to keep a hold of his commemorative 50th Anniversary hat!
