Wells and Noble shine in Le Mans Cup at Monza

Tony Wells and Colin Noble secured a fine third position at Monza last weekend. Following an early multi-car crash that unfortunately eliminated #20 teammate Mark Crader – who was an innocent victim of other’s mistakes – the team opted to box Tony early to gain a tactical advantage.

Colin subsequently made gains, working his way up to sixth position by lap 40 and third place just ten laps later, confirming the podium position for the team.

The recent Paul Ricard victory, combined with the podiums secured at Monza, leave Nielsen Racing second in the championship battle with 48 points, just two behind the series leader.

The ELMS race on Sunday capped off the bitter-sweet race weekend for the team, with Tony and Colin running well before having to retire the #7 Ligier following a mechanical failure.

The sister #6 car ran in the top six with Austin at the wheel before being punted into the gravel and ultimately finishing in 12th position.

Nielsen Racing 4 - Wells and Noble shine in Le Mans Cup at Monza

Colin Noble

“Saturday was a really good day with Nielsen Racing maximising the strategy and we together achieved a podium which was huge! Considering where we were at the halfway point of the race, we battled through well, the car was very good and we were pleased with the podium and to be just two points from the championship lead.

“ELMS was a little frustrating as we could have had a good result there but unfortunately the starter motor failed at the last pitstop, so that would have been a definite third. The pace and car were both good, Tony did a good first stint and the strategy was bang-on. Overall, it was good and now we look forward to Le Mans.”
